“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Martin Luther King Jr.

Welcome to CCNA

The Concerned Citizens Network of Alexandria (CCNA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to remedying low academic achievement and high dropout rates among African American, Latino and low income students in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS).

We improve low academic performance and decrease the high school dropout rate through free after school tutoring and mentoring to at-risk middle school students, empowering parents to participate in and advocate for their students’ education, and engaging community stakeholders in the education of our future workforce.

CCNA’s mission is to empower a comprehensive, community-wide effort to increase student achievement and reduce the ACPS high school dropout rate. The work we do matters not only to the individuals directly served, but to the community as a whole by investing in students’ education, enabling them to succeed academically, graduate from high school, and provide them the tools they need to be economically self-sufficient. Our programs help fill a void in the lives of many students who were headed down a dead-end path of not completing high school and a future with limited employment and economic prospects. By reducing the City’s school dropout rates and reducing risky behavior, the RARE program helps to equip students with the education and skills needed to become Alexandria’s next generation of workers, leaders and productive citizens.
